Trevors Mk3`s
By Trevor Goodall
The
start of my the Mklll Passion
Well
it started when I was about nine years old (That’s a while a go now!). My
brother Dayle was turning 18 yrs old and Mum, Dad, my brother and I went
looking for a car for him.
After
a few car yards later we walked in to one at Bayswater (That’s in Victoria
Melbourne, in the eastern suburbs of Australia). As we walked in nothing looked
any good so we walked right down the back to all the cheap stuff as you do.
There
right at the back in the last row on the right was this sky blue Mk lll ZEPHYR.
My brothers and my mouths were dribbling all over this car!
Mum
and Dad said you don’t want that, it’s too old and parts are too hard to get
for it (nag, nag, nag). Well I fell in love with the Mk lll, oh, so did my
brother too. So he bought it.
Well
everytime he blew up the motor I would sit in the car and dream and think to
myself I’m going to have one of these one day!
And
that’s how my passion started for the Mk lll ZEPHYR. And now I have 3 of them!

When
I was 12 years old I first picked up for free (using the sliver tongue) a red
XM deluxe Ford Falcon sedan. Real straight but heaps of green slime all over
the car, (from sitting under a tree for years minus the head on the engine). So
this car had to be ready to drive when I got my licence at 18.
Later
on I had more Falcons, a few Mazda’s, a Saab, 2 rally cars, a Isuzu, and 1
coupe both were used at the old Queensland Lakeside track where Ford race car
driver Dick Johnson started racing at .I built both of these up and my
weekender now is a black 1993 Toyota Aristo with a 3 litre 6 cylinder twin
turbo, a lovely car with all the tricks, loads of grunt too!

I
hope to get my other Mklll to look like this one!
I
want to install a Toyota Soarer engine and trans into one of the Mklll’s,
should be a nice and light power plant with the all Alloy motor and box and
plenty of power out of the 4litre V8.

And
that’s how my passion started for the Mklll ZEPHYR, and now I have 3 of them.
At the moment I am looking into a Toyota 5 speed swap and maybe a different
carb and intake manifold.
I
have just fitted a JVC stereo mp3 cd in the Mklll, 400watt amp, and 400-watt
sub. Plus 2 x 300 watt Kenwood oval 3 ways on the parcel shelf and 2 x 160 watt
Sony 2 ways in the doors.
Really
sounds unreal. The amp, sub, and head unit all came out of a Holden VS Commodore
I bought and sold so cost was zero. The front Sony speakers are from the
wreckers at $20 and are like new. And the Kenwood's out of my turbo Saab I sold
2 yrs back.
Trevor
is getting married to his partner of 12 years; Lone in September next year and
yes a Mklll will be used as a wedding car!
