Rat Mkll Ute

Here is a story from Kiwi Galeforce member Willy Ponting (NZ rust) in South Auckland..

The idea of the rat Zephyr stems from using the not saleable parts that I have, i.e. cannot sell as they are too damaged, with rust or dents just too rough for anyone else.

I got this idea to find a Zephyr Ute to do up but there was none around in my cheap price range, so the next best thing was to play around with all the bits I have.

We found an old Mitsubishi L200 Ute with no rust, blown engine and the gearbox sitting on the tray etc and towed it home. Next I fitted the whole front Zephyr clip onto the mitsi and started to fit the zephyr door skins then the Holden 3.8 and Trans into the engine bay and will then get the computer into the cab shortly and install the wiring.

This is to be a budget project, with as much done at home as I can, with as little money spent as possible. All the mechanicals are from a damaged Holden Commodore that was too far gone to repair body wise.

A Friend has donated a cross flow radiator and a set of steel rims. Another has offered to help with the front seat Mexican blanket. The Rat Zephyr Ute is a practical project for me, I will have a cheap painted Rat, it will be cheap to fix and as reliable as any modern car.

She looks old school “Zephyrish” with modern power disc brakes, electric wipers and window demister and heater, with independent front end and a full, can’t be bad...

Cheers

NZ rust.
