Neil ‘s Hot 351 Mk111
Neil purchased the Zephyr from the original owner in 1984
for $600-00. The car was in good condition and had only 46,000 miles showing.
The car was at that time completely stock but repainted
Arctic White acrylic
The motor now fitted is the Falcon XW GT 351 Windsor,
rebuilt with 40 thou over Silvolite pistons and Moly rings. The cam, lifters
and timing chain are Ford Motorsport. The cylinder heads are Alloy Ford
Motorsport J-302 Windsor type fitted with 1.94” intake -1.60” exhaust valves,
running Harland Sharp Roller Rockers. The alloy intake manifold is also Ford
Motorsport (a Dual Plane). The carby is a Carter AFB 625 cfm, and the exhaust
manifolds are cast XW GT 2 ¼” outlet leading to a full twin system with
stainless Genie Mufflers.
The auto trans is a Ford C10, rebuilt with a shift kit. At
the rear the diff is Ford Fairlane Compact 8 inch with a 3.40 ratio LSD centre.
The suspension was upgraded with 30% struts and lowered coils up front. Double
sway bar added.
The rear is lowered with traction rods, standard lever
shocks.
The brakes and booster are standard front disc and rear are
Fairlane drum.
Wheels are Performance Supalite alloys 15 x 6 “ with
Bridgestone Potenza tyres.
The original bench seats were trimmed in Jaguar red vinyl
with black-red herringbone cloth inserts. New black loop pile carpet was
installed; the rest of the interior is in original condition.
Up front, extra gauges were added including a Smith
oil-temp gauge and a Autometer 8000rpm tacho. The original steering
wheel was replaced with a 15” griplite sports wheel. Full racing harnesses were
installed up front for racing events.
Since the V8 conversion in 1987 the car has seen plenty of
motor sport action, such as legal off street drags,

And hill
climbs
Quarter mile times are consistent 13.5 seconds @ over
100mph. The car returns up to 21 mpg on a trip and the car has recently
attended the South Australian Zephyr and Zodiac convention in 2006. The Zephyr
is currently racing as a replica of Don Toffolons #80 car, raced from 1965-68
locally as “Motor Improvements”.
