SHE A LITTLE COUNTRY AND A LITTLE BIT RESTO ROD

By Gareth Lusty

I have been a car lover ever since I could remember. The first car I ever owned (at the age of 18) was a 1923 Ford T bucket and I then joined my first car club the Western Bays street rodders in Porirua Wellington, New Zealand.  Over the years I've owned many types of cars, liking the odd ball models the most. Old cars are so much fun when taking part in shows, club runs and events.

Now living in Hamilton New Zealand, I am a member of the HAMILTON ZEPHYR ZODIAC CLUB.    My pride and joy is a 1960 Mk2 Ford Consul Low Line called “My Maria"

The name "My Maria" comes from the days I cruised in my last hot rod (a Ford pop coupe) rocking to Brooks and Dunn   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52-70zLimFo&feature=related

There's nothing better than cruising to good country rock. And from the minute I got this old Consul it was no different.

On the road home with the new car and the name she was given.
I've always liked to give my cars a name as a bit of personality or point of difference without spending too much money, with MY MARIA this is no different.

My 1960 Consul is English assembled and powered by a 4 cylinder, 204E 1703cc motor and a 3 speed Manual.
The paint colour Dusky Pink is set off with a white roof, the interior is a swish red vinyl.

After owning the car for one week it was a two hour cruise to Tauranga for a flame job and name.

The red hot and racing flame day time look was painted by award winning painter Willie J Johnstone....

My Maria also has a night look as well.

Using 12v red led ribbon lights to give the glow high lighting the colour of the interior and the boot,
the lights are cheap and use low power and are bright and easy to hide.

MY MARIA is a fun old family cruiser and well used, doing weddings, show n shines club days, family outings and school balls.

Cars are meant to be driven not stored in a shed so it's a good to own, cheap to run car.

With the price of petrol you don't have to take out a bank loan to be able to drive it all the time like you do if you running a V8.
