Reconditioning a MkIII Drag Link
By Karl Schluter
-Low Zep
This
modification is for the draglink marked (B).
It has the
non-adjustable end unlike draglink (A), which is an earlier model.
The
modification goes as in (C).
The ball
joint is cut off at the end and a thread cut onto the end of the draglink
allowing for the ball joint to screw on and a lock nut. The ball joint to use
is a BMC front wheel drive type and the important thing is to make sure it has
the correct taper to fit the steering box arm. This I had done on my own car
many years ago by a shop that specialised in this type of work, although I am
sure any good engineering or garage firm could do this work. You end up with a
cheap replaceable joint. Also make sure the overall length of the draglink
stays closely the same.
