Kustom Tony’s Diesel Mkll Zephyr

This is Tony’s Mkll from the UK; it’s a 60 Lowline. Tony has owned a long line of Custom cars with 3 modified Mklls (V8 and V6 powered) 3 customised Mkllls, 2 custom Mkl’s, 5 Vauxhall PA Crestas, plus 1 US Classic, a 59 Belair, plus other period cars…. often roof chopped!

His current Zephyr use to belong to his brother, who restored it and used to show it (in the late 90's). He sold the original engine and fitted it with a pinto......then he left it for a few years.

Tony got the car cheap from him on condition that his brother could have his pinto engine back (for one of his many mk2 consul's). So Tony ended up with a solid zephyr shell sat on his driveway, which needed an engine and gearbox. The price of petrol there in the UK is well over 4 pounds a gallon, so he thought a diesel motor would be the best bet. A 2.3 ford sierra diesel estate was spotted on e-bay......just the job! Which he won it for 90 quid! A bargain J

Tony used a Peugeot 504 sump pan and oil pick up pipe (to clear the cross member), the Diesel engine fitted a treat and he has just about got it running.

“I managed to get the clutch working by routing a mk3 ford Cortina clutch cable to the other side of the pedal and making a bracket to hold the outer cable......it works fine“.

“As you can see the car wants a fair bit of body work and TLC........but hopefully it should be on the road in a month or so“.

Tony intends to finish the car in Turquoise and White, then fit the sun visor, fender skirts and dump the suspension 2 or 3 inches. A nice set of spinner hub caps to the front wheels will round this fine machine off.

Keep an eye out for updates from Tony as keeps us up to date with his progress!

a pic of a mk3 zephyr is also enclosed.... sold this one 6 months ago.L
