Homemade
2 Barrel Intake
By Jim
Peall (Written up by Karl)
"Jim
Peall has made a very nice welded intake for a friends Consul by welding part of
a Datsun 180B intake to the Ford Consul lower intake. The Carb used is a Weber
on an adaptor that goes from the Datsun’s smaller Nikki bolt pattern to the
wider Weber bolt pattern.
Jim
is leaving a small lip inside the join to promote better fuel vaporising.
I
myself looked into adapting a section of 10A or 12A Mazda rotary engine intake
to an inline 6 intakes lower half so the Mazda's small Nikki 4 barrel carb
could be used on the Zephyr 6 engine. Both engines are similar in size and the
carb is a vacuum secondary one so good for economy as well as power. The two
intakes looked to be quite easy to match together too.

I was having a look at the above 2
barrel manifold and thought I would add this little tip. When I did mine
recently I happened to have an inlet manifold from an EA Falcon (single point
fuel injection type) laying around and found that the mounting plate is perfect
for adapting to the 2 barrel as it is made to suit the weber carby. All I had to do was reposition the holes for bolting
the Holley on although in hindsight I probably would use the weber from the
XF next time. I am sure that these manifolds would be quite cheap from the
wreckers and you would probably recoup the cost by sending the left over
manifold to scrap.
