Graemes Mk2 Zephyr

(Proving you're never too young to start on another car).

Hi everyone, this is the car my youngest son gave to me for my 60th Birthday. How lucky can I be. I originally had a MK 1 when I first got my license, those were the days, I was bullet proof and so was the car with the exception of umpteen broken axles. Now let me see, release the clutch slowly and press the accelerator slowly, yeah right, it was go, go, go from one green light to the next red one. It got that bad I had to put a MK11 diff in, then I had to cut wheel arches out to allow the extra width I can vividly remember being at Calder (when you parked around the fence line) and young ones my age would come at ask me what is different about the car. They just could not put their finger on it.

I later got married and slowed down a bit, this made me purchase a beautiful white Mklll, auto, radio, carpet, it was luxury, and did I feel different to every one else. This was also my first auto, so smokey's were curtailed, especially with the children in the back. I eventually moved to Falcons and gave the Mklll to one of my brother in laws. Unfortunately he bingled and it was declared a wipe off. SO SAD.

Unknowingly I must have talked often about the Zed's I owned because I went with my son to look at one he was interested in purchasing as an adviser. When he did buy it, he gave me the keys and said "Dad this for you, to do what you want, Happy Birthday"

I have already replaced the bicycle wheels with 14" 12 slotters, this has slowed the revs a bit on the highway just as I wanted. I intend to put in a floor shift, headers, have the head done, and of cause a Ford Falcon x flow 350 Holley to feed it the juice it will need. As a foot note I don't think I will be around to get a MK1V when I am 90.

UPDATE:

I am still working on the engine bay with a fresh coat of paint for the metal, have given the engine a spray as well (Dark green which seems to be the original colour) my son wanted red, you have to be kidding. Slowly but surely it is coming together. Nothing radical so far as the budget is pretty small and runs on a weekly basis. I have purchased bucket seats the same colour as the trim which will allow me to fit the floor change easily. Relocated the battery to the boot, I intend to braid all the hoses and cover all the wiring. I am having trouble finding a spot for the twin horns but I am working on it. I will be chroming the oil filter and ignition coil, but I have painted the rocker cover, side plate and air box gloss black, Cooool. I will send some more as the project continues.

Primer goes on............

and Paint .............

 Cheers to all

Graeme Rogers.
