George’s 10 Second Mklll Zephyr
Sent
in by George in the UK , are the following details of his well sorted Chev
powered Mklll.
I
have owned my zephyr 6 since 1990 and it has been a work in progress all this
time. Not a week goes by without doing something to it! It now has a Chevy
small block, aftermarket Dart little m block, steel crank, forged pistons,
steel rods, Dart Pro 1 heads and a Holley 950hp carb.
Backing
the engine is a TH400 auto box with a manual valve body and trans brake.
Replacing
the standard diff at the rear is a 9” Ford diff kitted out with Strange parts
from the US.
When
George first ran the Zephyr down the strip it went in the 14s, its best to date
is 10.3 @ 135. Remember this is in complete street trim as George drives the
car every where. The 10.3 run was run using a 150hp nitrous shot! A nitrous
fogger kit has now been installed and hopefully with good weather at his track
near London, England, 9’s in the quarter will be next!
It
hooks up very well as the above times show with ladder bars added to the rear 3
years ago. Best 60ft time to date is 1.48 from the previous 1.80.
Up
front George installed a Capri steering rack as well as Capri front suspension.
This
car is all self built, from the engine to the paint on it and although it isn’t
the fastest car on the planet George has good reason to be very happy with it.
A lot has been learnt on the way.
A
few months ago a twin turbo system was bought for the car and intentions are to
put that on along with fuel injection, but that will be way off in the future.
