Barney's Mkll Disc Brake Swap

Here are the details as sent to me by Bernie (Barney) on the disc brake swap on his Mkll in New Zealand. Our other Mkll disc brake install write up on site here details fitting the Mklll disc. Here Barney takes up the install.

This is the bracket I made for fitting MK3 Calipers onto my MK2 Stub Axle. The only other alteration you have to make is to put longer brake hoses on, as MK2's are too short. The longer hoses I have used are 420mm long. I purchased them from B.N.T. (Brake & Transmission NZ Ltd) - Rotorua, and they cost $26.18 each plus GST. The product number is "HS74". I used a 10mm steel plate, and 10mm nuts and bolts long threaded, as you need to have the bolt through the nuts. I also had to use 3 washers on the top and bottom of Caliper to Bracket to line everything up. There was no trouble certifying; only addition was putting on longer brake hoses. The picture is not drawn to scale. Do use grade 8 bolts and nylock nuts on the final install. Also check the new brake hoses don't rub anywhere from lock to steering lock.

The bolt holes on the left hand side are determined by the Mklll caliper and the inner ones on the right, by the Mkll strut.
